In June of 2020, we shared a statement from the VMG Family declaring our unequivocal stance as allies to the BIPOC community in its continued fight for justice and equality. Hate crimes and violence against the AAPI community continue to escalate nationally — highlighted most recently by a deeply troubling mass shooting in Atlanta. This event, among too many others, demonstrates not only the need to continuously speak up and support marginalized communities, but also the need to re-educate ourselves on the history of BIPOC in the United States. It is a shared history of prejudice and suffering, and AAPIs are deserving of the conversation and acknowledgement necessary to heal. Fundamentally, the atrocious act in Atlanta was not only a product of racism, but also an irrefutable act of misogyny, which must be condemned to be effectively addressed and eliminated.
VMG is an organization comprised of diverse people and points of view, and we are aligned in our mission to challenge the status quo. We encourage everyone in our ecosystem to cultivate a safe space in your communities and to operate with compassion and empathy. We will continue to raise our voices to stand up for what's right — and take action to create space for dignity, respect, and most importantly, opportunity for everyone.
