I LIVE BY THE DR. SEUSS QUOTE: ""YOUR MOUNTAIN IS WAITING, SO…GET ON YOUR WAY!
Rachel describes herself as a lifelong learner, due to her parents’ encouragement to be open-minded and experience new things.
PASS THE SCORPION
In college, I had the opportunity to work abroad in Singapore for a summer. I met lifelong friends, travelled to seven different countries in Southeast Asia, and tried as many different foods as I could (eating scorpion in Thailand has to be one of the most memorable!)
LEAP, THEN LEARN
The experiences that have shaped me most have all begun with a step into the unknown—whether speaking in front of a room full of strangers, moving to a new city, learning how to ski, building a community in a new space, or just making connections with new people.
Working in fund operations, I’m energized by creating clarity, structure, and scalability alongside a team that cares deeply about long-term partnerships. "
LET’S START WITH YOUNG RACHEL. ARE THERE ANY LESSONS FROM CHILDHOOD THAT HAVE STUCK WITH YOU?
My parents have always encouraged my sister and me to experience new things, whether it’s a new food, book, hobby, sport, state or country...
SO ANYTHING REALLY.
Yep. My dad used to say: “If you can learn one thing, then it was worth it.” That level of open-mindedness has really stuck with me into adulthood and made me grow into a lifelong learner.
I’M GUESSING YOU’RE A WORLD TRAVELER.
In college, I actually lived and worked in Singapore for a summer.
THAT SOUNDS COOL!
Yeah, I had never been to Asia before, never traveled alone on a plane for over 20 hours. It was an incredible experience—I met lifelong friends, travelled to seven different countries in Southeast Asia, and tried as many different foods as I could.
WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE?
Umm…eating scorpion in Thailand has to be one of the most memorable!
YOU ARE ADVENTUROUS!
(laughs)
That summer definitely built the foundation for me to tackle other new experiences.
LIKE?
Speaking in front of a room full of strangers, moving to a new city, learning how to ski, building a community in a new space, or just making connections with new people! I am forever grateful to my parents for instilling that open-mindedness in me.
SOUNDS LIKE YOU COME FROM A COOL FAMILY.
I do. My immediate family is awesome, but I also have a close extended family, including seven cousins who made growing up very fun. We live in different cities now, but we still find ways to create new memories together, whether celebrating life events, traveling somewhere new, or starting an impromptu book club.
SHIFTING OVER THE WORK: WHAT GETS YOU MOST PSYCHED ABOUT WHAT YOU DO AT VMG?
I love helping support the operational backbone behind some of the most thoughtful consumer investing out there. In fund operations, I’m energized by creating clarity, structure, and scalability alongside a team that cares deeply about long-term partnerships.
AND WHERE CAN WE FIND YOU WHEN YOU’RE NOT WORKING?
Probably spending some time outside with friends. Anything from a simple walk (preferably with a coffee in hand!) to a long bike ride or hike.
AND IF YOU END UP GETTING LOST ON THE HIKE, YOU CAN PROBABLY RUSTLE UP SOME SCORPION FOR DINNER.
That would be a Saturday to remember indeed.
