Being open, honest and genuine does so many good things for you and the people you work with.

With a belief in the power of authenticity and strong values passed on by hard-working Indian immigrant parents, Aarti loves partnering closely with founders to take companies to a greater level of scale than they could have imagined.

FAMILY ETHOS

My parents played the long game and never compromised their values to accelerate their individual trajectories. I’ve operated with a similar ethos in my own life: always work really hard, do the right thing, position yourself the best that you can, and the rest should fall into place.

HOMETOWN HOAGIES

Princeton is a peaceful place with a lot of greenery and nature, but also a bustling town center chockfull of incredible shops and restaurants. It’s got everything from elevated dining at Mediterra to the simplest of grub, good ol’ Hoagie Haven (IYKYK).

VALUES IN ACTION

At VMG, I have so many pinch-me moments where we’re all sitting together, and I think: wow, what a diverse team with such fun, kind and collaborative people. This combination is so hard to find. We don’t just talk the talk about culture at VMG — we actually walk the walk.

We have to start with the launch of VMG Partners’ first SPAC. What was the most exciting part of it?

I’ve been thrilled to take the lead on this launch — it’s been an exciting step for us as a firm. The new strategy represents where we are as a whole: at a point of meaningful growth and expansion. Further, the SPAC enables us to play a new role in the industry by helping companies enter the public markets, and then stay successful as public companies. If there’s anything the equity markets have taught us in the past few years, it’s that being a public company is really complex — having an experienced partner to support you can go a long way.

Definitely. Now let’s back it up for a moment. Where is your hometown?

Princeton is incredibly charming and has a perfect balance of everything you’d want in a hometown! It’s a peaceful place with a lot of greenery and nature, but also a bustling town center that is chock full of incredible shops and restaurants — everything from elevated dining at Mediterra to the simplest of grub, good ol’ Hoagie Haven (IYKYK). And the university is so beautiful (my sister went there, in fact). I could really go on and on, so you better cut me off…

Okay, well, since you brought up your sister, what was it like growing up in your family?

I had a wonderful childhood that I look back on so fondly. My parents immigrated to the U.S. from India in 1980. From their two suitcases and modest backgrounds, they built lives they never could have imagined — they worked so hard…every single day. They also played the long game and never compromised their values to accelerate their individual trajectories. I’ve operated with a similar ethos in my own life: always work really hard, do the right thing, position yourself the best that you can, and the rest should fall into place.

Which leads us here. What gets you most psyched about working with brands at VMG?

Our role as investors and partners can be game changing for entrepreneurs, management teams, brands and, ultimately, the consumer and retail industry overall. Capital and expertise go a long way for growth-stage companies, so the work we do can truly make a meaningful impact —it’s really exciting, on both a personal and professional level.

Everyone is their own key ingredient in the culture of VMG. What flavor do you feel like you’re bringing?

My flavor is: authenticity and keeping it real! Being open, honest and genuine does so many good things for you and the people you work with. Embracing vulnerability can translate into making much stronger human connections, and drive better professional outcomes as well.

Alright, enough about work. What’s your favorite way to spend a Saturday?

For me, a good weekend is all about balance! Saturdays usually start with sleeping in — anyone who knows me knows that I love my sleep! And then I have to spend time being active outside (hiking, walks, exploring the city, you name it). And perhaps the highlight of my day is a nice dinner out. That moment when you sit down at a great vibey restaurant and get your glass of wine — ahh, it’sbliss. In NYC, I am a true regular at ABC Cocina and its sister restaurant abcV.

Do you need me to cut you off again?

Please, otherwise I might start reciting the menus!

At least we know who to go to for restaurant recs!

I’d be honored. ( :
